The mission of Mission BBQ in Saint Matthews, Kentucky is to serve the best barbecue and sides in the area. This isn’t your typical barbecue joint, and you can tell from the minute you walk in. Decorated in patriotic red, white, and blue, this is about as American as you can get from the burgers and fries, pulled pork, baked beans, and Maggie’s Mac-N-Cheese.
Specialty burgers and craft beer are no problem at Bru Burger Bar in Lexington. Life doesn’t get much better than this combination, unless you add a side of spicy roasted jalapeno sausage and shrimp mac and cheese. Now that’s a meal worth waiting for. And if you leave room for dessert, try the peach white chocolate bread pudding for a real treat.
Eat inside or out on the patio, but make plans to stop at the Eagle, Louisville’s answer to great Southern food. With house specialties like pickled country vegetables and blackened shrimp po boys, you can also get perfect comfort food like a five-cheese mac & cheese side or daily baked homemade biscuits with blackberry jam.
If you’re a fan of University of Kentucky basketball, Crewitt’s Creek is the place for you. Listed as one of the top seven restaurants in Independence, this little diner is known for its beer and burgers, but you have to try one of the seven varieties of mac and cheese with everything from shrimp to crab to fried pork belly and green chilies. You’ll never look at mac and cheese the same again.
Looking for an upscale place to take your sweetheart? Morton’s in downtown Louisville will not disappoint. Hamburgers may have been what put this restaurant on the watch list, but they’ve grown into one of the best steak places in the city and you can tell by the awards all over the walls. They have great choices for sides like the Lobster or Bacon & Onion Macaroni & Cheese. Come hungry because the portions are generous.
